A COMPETITION-WINNING Dalmuir couple have hailed their new £5,000 bathroom as having the “wow factor”.
Work started on June and George McArthur’s bathroom in late January and it took just three days for the transformation to be completed.
Clyde Weekly Press teamed up with the Bathroom Company in Glasgow to run the competition in six of its local papers – including the Clydebank Post – and the McArthurs were shocked to win.
Now the delighted couple, inset, say they have been left ‘gobsmacked’ by the refurbishment, which saw a stainless-steel radiator installed the whole room retiled and the addition of a walk-in shower with hand-rails and pull-down seat.
George, 76, described the finished article as ‘something special’ and said it was ‘lovely’, while wife June, 71, told the Post: “The room looks a lot better, a big improvement on what it was. The workmanship is just absolutely wonderful.
“They were very efficient, very very respectful and very friendly. It was heads down and on with the job.
“They were an excellent team from plumber and electrician to the joiner and tiler.
“I was just gobsmacked. It’s got the wow factor. Even photographs don’t show it to its full advantage, they don’t do it justice. You need to see it.”
Winning the competition came at the perfect time for the pair, who had previously said they were struggling with the use of their bath.
They say they are over the moon that the job has been done for them and they no longer have to worry about removing it.
June added: “It’s just all been taken out of our hands. It’s a problem solved.
“Our family have seen it and they are really pleased.
“I had spoken to friends who had bathrooms put in during the last few years and it took the companies a fortnight to complete the whole thing, so they were quite surprised it only took the Bathroom Company just three days.
“The men that came in were just non-stop and left the place absolutely pristine. It is the only job I’ve had done that I haven’t had to clean up after the workmen.”
In fact, the McArthurs are so happy with the outcome, it has inspired them to press on and get more jobs done around their Dumbarton Road home.
June laughed: “It’s spurred us on. We will need to look at some other decorating now.”
Jennifer Bremner, director of the Bathroom Company, said: “We are absolutely delighted that George and June were the lucky winners of the competition. There were a lovely and very deserving couple as they had planned to get their bathroom done in the new year. They are both delighted with the end results.
“What a transformation it was. Absolutely stunning.
“To hear such lovely words about all the team at the Bathroom Company makes us very proud as a company and extremely proud of all who work for us.
“We would also like to thank My Life Bathrooms who supplied all the high quality products for the bathroom.”
