Edinbarnet Editors are back refreshed from the summer holidays and are ready to update the community about what’s happening in Edinbarnet Primary School.
As busy as a new term is, we had one main event that kept us extra busy - celebrating European Day of Languages.
Each teacher taught us about a different country and we spent all day participating in activities relating to that country.
All of the pupils moved around the different teachers’ classes throughout the day meaning they got to learn about many countries in one day.
It was Edinbarnet Editors’ responsibility to capture the events throughout the day.
We went around each of the classes and collected information about the activities going on in each room. We had questionnaires to ask the children about their learning and their favourite activities from the day.
Taylor and Mary, two of our editors, took on the role of photographers for the day - they went to each class to take pictures of the children busy at work.
There were a variety of different activities in relation to Germany, Spain, France and other countries.
Mrs Morrison did a Gaelic song with the classes she took - they practised at the beginning and the end of their lesson and they also read Gaelic books. They learned the word “tana” means “thin” and many other fascinating Gaelic words.
Our editors spoke to a P5 pupil, Aaron, aged nine, who said: “Our song is very funny because it is dedicated to porridge.”

The class said they enjoyed themselves and had great fun.
In Mr Clark’s, they studied Spain. They food tested chorizo and cheese, listened to Spanish music and joined in with instruments. On asking their opinions they said the food was nice, Sabrina didn’t like the chorizo though. Grace said the music was good and relaxing.
On top of this we had traditional Spanish dancing in Mrs Sweeney’s, mapping activities in Mr Hunter’s and we definitely heard some ABBA blasting from Miss McFarlane’s room.
We all had a fantastic day and we would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Sweeney for organising such a fantastic event in our school.
Although European Languages Day was the main milestone of term one in Edinbarnet, business as usual continued otherwise. We had a fantastic visit from “Microsoft Meg”. A lady who works with Microsoft taught our P6s about programming and coding microbits. It was difficult at first but once we got the hang of it we were able to programme them to say our names.
We also had a visit from a Taekwondo specialist who gave us a short introduction to the sport and a wee taster session to see if we would like it. We had to do sit ups, press ups and burpees - we were very sweaty by the end but we had great fun.
P5/6 have also started their weekly library sessions with Jan in Faifley Library. We have been reading Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach and have been really enjoying it.
Jan let us taste some peaches and we even had a go at writing with some charcoal - all we will say is we are glad lead was invented as if we had to write using charcoal our teachers would never be able to read our stories.
We will be back next month with another update on the goings on at Edinbarnet Primary.
