RESIDENTS are invited to attend a service commemorating the 79th anniversary of the Clydebank Blitz.

The town was largely destroyed and 1,200 lives were lost during air raids in March 13 and 14, 1941.

There will be a service of commemoration on Saturday, March 14, at the Blitz Memorial in Old Dalnottar Cemetery.

The service will begin at 11am and will last approximately 15 minutes.

Afterwards, there will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Polish Memorial at the Solidarity Plaza, opposite Clydebank Town Hall.

Provost William Hendrie said: “It is important for us to remember the lives lost during the Blitz and the struggles faced by the surviving residents, we cannot imagine the devastation that residents faced after the attacks .

“On the 79th anniversary, the annual memorial service is not only an important part of the town’s history but a fitting tribute the residents who survived the Blitz and helped rebuild the town of Clydebank.”

All members of the public are most welcome to attend both events.
