THE B&Q store in Drumchapel has donated rolls of plastic so that protective gowns can be made for NHS workers.

The donation was made following an appeal to protect frontline staff and their patients, launched by MedSupplyDriveUK Scotland – a volunteer group of NHS doctors, medical students and allies.

The group, along with Masks for Scotland and Vise Up, are urgently appealing for personal protective equipment (PPE) to be donated directly to local healthcare facilities across Scotland.

A spokesperson said: “The NHS is currently experiencing an unprecedented rise in demand for PPE and risks facing a shortage in supplies as the Covid-19 crisis continues – the consequences of which could be disastrous and cost lives.

“It is now absolutely vital that this need for high quality PPE is met, which is why MSDUK Scotland is making an urgent plea to all organisations, businesses and individuals that may currently have stockpiles of PPE.

“As a small country with great industry, the PPE that NHS frontline workers so desperately need might just be in a warehouse or stockroom round the corner. We have the opportunity to equip NHS workers quickly and efficiently if donations are made locally.

“No matter how big or how small, all donations of these essential supplies will make a massive difference and help save lives in the fight against Covid-19.”

Donations of Alpha Solway 3030V FFP3 masks, 3M 8833 FFP3 masks, non-latex gloves, goggles, medical gowns, FFP3 respirators, and visors are all needed.
