A HOUSING association has said it is taking “appropriate action” against those responsible for allowing their dog to foul in communal green space.

A resident of a Clydebank tenement block, situated at 161 Dumbarton Road, got in touch with the Post to complain that persistent dog mess in the back green was preventing him from enjoying fresh air and hanging out his washing during lockdown.

He claims that although footage has been recorded of dogs fouling in the back green and of owners failing to clean up afterwards, it could not be used as official evidence because it had not been taken by the flats’ owner, Clydebank Housing Association (CHA), or by an official agency.

The man, who does not wish to be named, said: “It goes from one end of the garden to another. It’s not just their gardening area, or a specific patch, it’s everywhere.

“You can’t even get out to hang your washing and even if you did manage that, you’re worried your clothes would end up smelling.

“The housing had been out previously, but only issued letters to residents asking them to be responsible for their animal.

“We know what animals are creating the mess, but it’s not their fault – it’s the owners.

“At the moment, I’m stuck in the house. I can’t get out and about and the only space I have for fresh air is the back yard but that’s not an option either.”

A spokesperson for CHA said: “This issue was identified by us last week during an inspection of the estate and we have identified the person responsible for allowing their dog to foul.

“We take the health and safety of all our tenants seriously and a job line has been issued to clear the dog mess.

“Appropriate action is also being taken against those responsible.”
