West Dunbartonshire Council have praised two Saint Mary’s Primary pupils as they awarded them the Young Sports Stars of the Month for September.
Lara MacPhie and Liam Cairns were praised for their participation in WDC Leisure’s Basketball club throughout the last year.
Liam attended a Basketball Club last year, while in Primary 5 and successfully earned a place in the West Dunbartonshire School Games (WDSG) Clydebank area qualifier festival.
His team at St. Mary’s went on to progress to the West Dunbartonshire P5 Basketball Final, where the team won.
Lara and Liam were both part of the team and champions at the tournament in January this year, playing in front of a large crowd including their families.
A spokesperson for Active Schools said: “Congratulations to Lara and Liam from Active Schools and all at West Dunbartonshire Leisure.
“Trying a new sport and participating in these tournaments has really developed confidence in both children and increased their sense of achievement through sport, hopefully inspiring them to keep active.”
