A Knightswood man is accused of causing a fire by throwing a bottle of accelerant at cars.

John Findlay, of Kingsway Court, allegedly threw the glass bottle at the vehicles belonging to William and Janice McVey in May last year.

The 39-year-old is claimed to have caused danger to people who were near the blaze which was started on Kingsway on May 16, 2020.

Findlay is claimed to have acted with an unknown person to culpably and recklessly start the fire.

On the same date, he is also accused of striking the tyres of a car on Anniesland Road belonging to Janice Edwards.

Prosecutors state Findlay also struck the passenger side door of the car which caused damage to the bodywork.

Findlay is then alleged to have assaulted another man, James Edwards, by repeatedly attempting to stab him with a knife at the same time and place.

He faces two final charges of the unlawful possession of a knife in Anniesland Road and, separately, in the city’s Scotstounhill on May 17.

He pleaded not guilty to the five charges at a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A trial was set for November this year by Sheriff Ian Fleming, but Findlay remains on bail.
