A POPULAR Clydebank photographer has spoken of his joy after his work was featured in a new music video.

Owen McGuigan, who has run the MyClydebank Photos website since 2009, was asked by former Wet Wet Wet leading man Marti Pellow to lend footage from his short film “Clydebank 1975” to the video for his new single.

The song sees Marti reminisce about his time growing up in Clydebank.

Snapper Owen, from Whitecrook, said he was more than happy to have his work featured.

He told the Post: “Marti has always been a fan of my website and I know he likes to have a browse because it brings back memories for him.

“His new album has a single on it called These Are The Days which is reminiscent of his time in Clydebank and going out with his friends.

“I relate a lot to the song myself because when I was young I would run about Clydebank.

“When the video was being made, the production company Mother Brown Films contacted me and told me they wanted some of my footage in it.

“It was really good to see it come together and I was very impressed with the final video.

“The company made a great job of it.”

A parcel containing merchandise appeared on Owen’s doorstep on May 9 - almost two months after the release of the video.

He added: “Marti was that chuffed that I’d allowed him to use the footage and so sent me some gifts as a thank you.

“I was chuffed to bits. I received two T-shirts for my wife and I, as well as a card, coasters, and a calendar.

“He’s used my name in publicity for the song in several interviews too which is nice.”

“Clydebank 1975” was shot on Super 8 film and features the shipyards, the Singer factory, and the construction of the Clydeside Expressway.

Owen said: “I got married in 1974 and, up until that point, I didn’t have a lot of spending money for myself.

“In 1975 I took a notion to buy a projector and I bought a camera.

“Clydebank was changing quite a lot at that point, and I went out and shot some footage.

“I didn’t ever think it would be viewed by people around the world.

“It’s quite low quality because it’s shot on Super 8 film, but it captured that period of time in Clydebank when everything was changing.”
