Pet owners have been left reeling after tainted treats were reportedly left in a Clydebank green space.
According to a post on social media shared by the Linnvale Community Group, sausages baited with rat poison were found by a dog walker in the field near Strauss Avenue on Wednesday, June 30.
In the original post Christina Tait said: "Dog walkers...someone has baited sausages with rat poisoning up linnvale field. Be careful with your dogs x"
It is thought someone may have left the items there to attract and poison foxes, as a dead one was allegedly found on the pathway in the days previous, reports our sister title The Clydebank Post.
If ingested, rat poison can cause internal bleeding, kidney failure, organ damage, and even death in dogs.
Pets suspected of ingesting the toxin should be taken to a vet immediately.
