A local sports group has been awarded National Lottery funding after a Scotland-wide awards event.
The Drumchapel and Clydebank Kayak Club have been awarded £6,500 as part of the National Lottery Community Fund in partnership with sportscotland at the National Lottery Awards.
And the funds will go towards the purchase of seven new sea kayaks of different sizes that will enable the club to widen access to more people trying out the water sport for the first time.
Emily Tweed, from the club, said: "We are delighted with our seven new sea kayaks, purchased with funds from the National Lottery Awards for All scheme and a contribution from club funds.
“We are a grassroots paddle sport club run by volunteers and have had a huge surge in membership since 2020: these new boats will help us develop the skills and experience of our new members.
“The boats will be named after Scottish islands based on a poll from the membership and will be used over the long bank holiday for a club trip to the Summer Isles."
Chief Executive of sportscotland Stewart Harris explained outfits like the kayak club are exactly the type of organisations sportscotland are keen to back.
He said: "This National Lottery funding awarded to clubs and communities across Scotland will provide incredible support and make a big difference for many projects.
“After a tough couple of years for the sport and physical activity sector, these grants will enhance the sporting opportunities for so many.
‘’This funding would not be possible without the National Lottery players, and we thank them for their continued support. Throughout the years, the contribution from the National Lottery players has truly changed lives and supported people and communities to improve and grow.’’
National Lottery Awards for All Scotland welcomes applications and focuses on funding smaller organisations with an annual turnover of less than £250k.
Applications are received on a rolling basis and can be received at any time.
