A Glasgow bride was forced to escape thick smoke with her wedding guests after a flare failed at her wedding.
Elizabeth Strickland had forked out £37 for four green and white flares in the hope it would create great photographs on her big day.
However the 56-year-old, from Knightswood, was left “absolutely disappointed” after one of the devices went rogue leaving her loved ones coughing as they fought the “dense” smoke.
One guest was even left injured after cutting his finger trying to open the flare.
The chaos broke out during her Lockerbie wedding to Brian Strickland, 56, last Saturday
Guests videoed the scene as Elizabeth laughed with loved ones who waved smoke away.
The bride said: “I am absolutely disappointed at losing out on some potentially great photos.
“I purchased two large and two small green and white [flares] from Etsy. I paid £37 in total.
“One guest, Thomas, actually cut his finger pulling the wire off one.
“The green flare eventually worked but all the guests had returned to the building.
“The smoke flares were planned to be used with a drone camera.
“The two small ones failed completely.
“I had only got them last week, so they hadn’t been sitting around long prior to using."
One wedding guest, Heidi Strickland, told our sister title the Glasgow Times: “One pull ring wouldn’t detach to release the smoke.
“After being passed around a few guests, Thomas did remove it to activate the smoke but cut his finger in the process.
“The smoke became extremely dense and some guests were coughing as they tried to escape the smoke.
“Although we laughed at the scenario the smoke created, truthfully we were disappointed as we had seen some amazing photos produced using the smoke.
“Unfortunately, we only had one chance to do this so the opportunity has gone.”
