DRUMCHAPEL Pool is set to receive a huge investment to upgrade the facility, it has been confirmed.
Glasgow Life recently announced that three of its venues will be part of a £1.8million upgrade - including the pool.
The facility, located on Drumry Road, will temporarily close to residents from Monday, October 31 as it undergoes a £1.2m renovation.
Councillor Paul Carey, who represents Drumchapel/Anniesland, said that as part of the work the existing air handling units and building management system will be replaced.
Bosses hope that this will improve the air quality and the building in the long term.
Work will also look to help with energy efficiency as well as providing a more comfortable experience for pool users.
The "much-needed" renovation will ensure that the pool continues to serve the community of Drumchapel for years to come, said Glasgow Life.
The upgrade is expected to take around eight months which would see the pool completed by the end of July 2023.
Residents are being reminded that if they are members of Glasgow Club they will be able to access Glasgow Life pools across the city whilst the pool is shut.
Bailie Annette Christie, chair of Glasgow Life, told our sister title, the Glasgow Times: “This investment will ensure Drumchapel Pool continues to serve the local community and surrounding areas for years to come.
"It is scheduled to re-open next year when Glasgow will celebrate its second term as the European Capital of Sport.
"People will return to an improved building and enjoy a better experience at the pool.
“The funding will also allow gym users at Bellahouston and the Gorbals to have access to state-of-the-art equipment.
"The studio makeovers will allow people to enjoy our wide range of fitness classes in more modern and refreshed surroundings.
"Improving the quality of these facilities has the power to encourage more people to get involved and experience the numerous benefits of sport and physical activity.”
