West Dunbartonshire Council hosted a flag-raising ceremony in Clydebank to mark LGBT+ history month.

Provost Douglas McAllister was joined by Clydebank's MP Martin Docherty-Hughes, councillors Sophie Traynor and Clare Steel as well as members of the public to raise the rainbow flag at Solidarity Plaza in a show of support for the annual awareness campaign.

Every February events take place across the UK celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and non-binary history, including the history of LGBT+ rights and related civil rights movements.

Since 2008, the local authority has marked the start of the month in this way.

Provost McAllister believes it reaffirms Clydebank as a place committed to human rights and equality.

He said: "We celebrate our area as a place where people can live the life they choose without fear of discrimination.

"And we recognise the struggles of millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people around the world who continue to face persecution - and in many countries, prosecution - simply for being true to themselves."
