A Clydebank man was caught driving over the limit after being stopped in the early hours of the morning.

Carl Brewster was spotted by police on the A82, near the retail park, where he was twice over the limit.

Fiscal depute Tiffany Chisholm told Dumbarton Sheriff Court that at around 4.55am on January 28 this year, officers had reason to ask Brewster to pull over.

He admitted that he had been driving and was taken to Clydebank police station.

The 33-year-old appeared for his sentencing on May 2.

He had previously pleaded guilty to the drink-drive charge where he gave a reading of 46 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit in Scotland is 22mcg per 100ml of breath.

Phil Lafferty, defending, said: "He had been consuming alcohol the previous evening. He had a disagreement with his partner and was asked to leave the property. He thought he was okay at that stage in the morning to drive and it proved not to be the case.

"He pled guilty at the earliest opportunity."

During the hearing, an issue with Brewster's driving licence was raised, which caused the case to be deferred last month, but Sheriff Seith Ireland proceeded to sentence.

The sheriff said: "There is no advantage in the interest of justice nor it would be fair on you bringing you back to court. Your record is public knowledge to the authorities and you appear to have no previous in terms of disqualification."

Brewster, of Graham Avenue, was disqualified for 12 months and fined £270.
