A CLYDEBANK school football team has been hailed for their 'outstanding achievement' which saw them lose only three matches in three years and pick up four trophies.
The under-16 boys of St Peter the Apostle High School (SPTA) finished this season as Scottish Cup and Glasgow League winners meaning it was four trophies out of six since they started S1.
The lads - now in S4 - also had to overcome a year with no football due to Covid restrictions as they surpassed their pre-pandemic form and establish themselves as the dominant team in their age group in Scotland.
And the group have been praised by West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) for all their success, with eight of the St Peter boys representing the under-15 Glasgow Schools’ Football Association (GSFA) Regional Select Team last year.
A post by WDC on Facebook read: "Congratulations to the U16 St Peter the Apostle football team on winning the Glasgow Cup and the Glasgow League.
"The team have been outstanding in their achievement.
"In S1, the boys were in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup and the Glasgow Cup, and the semi-final of the League, having only lost one game all season.
"Covid struck, putting an end to the possibility of winning some silverware and there was no football in S2 due to restrictions.
"Season 22-23 was very much a continuation of the achievements already attained in S1 and S3 by the team.
"In S3, the boys won the Glasgow Cup and the Glasgow League, winning all games in the process.
"The eventual winners of the Scottish Cup that year, Kilmarnock Ac., knocked them out of the Scottish Cup on penalties.
"Eight of the SPTA boys also represented the U15 Glasgow Schools’ Football Association (GSFA) Regional Select Team that season."
The post goes on to explain the team set a goal after their Scottish Cup defeat in S3, describing the group mentality as 'single-minded' in their pursuit for glory.
It finished: "In three years of school football, the team has lost two games in normal time, and been defeated once after penalties and have won four out of a possible six trophies."
