A summer inflatable event planned for a Glasgow park has been pulled after the organisers failed to secure a licence.
Inflatable Fun City was set to arrive in Victoria Park this month, offering children a chance to play on a variety of bouncy castles.
However, in a post on social media, the organisers claimed Glasgow City Council had denied them a temporary public entertainment licence for the event.
It stated the “family of Inflatable Fun City are sorry to announce that after 15 years of bringing this event to Glasgow”, it “will not happen” this year.
They said the event was due to run from July 8 to August 13 but the licence hadn’t been granted as the application was “two weeks late”.
The organisers added the reason for the late bid was because the council are “putting us on the red ash park” which they were “waiting to see if it dried up as the place is like a bog”.
In the social media post, the Inflatable Fun City organisers claimed the council was “demanding the five-figure sum rent” which meant “this cheap little event that you bring your kids to every year is not going to happen”.
“We bring people from all over Scotland to this little event, it is the best value for money you will not get any better,” they added.
A spokesman for the council said: “Unfortunately this company submitted an application for a public entertainment licence that did not include all the necessary documentation and which was also well beyond the usual deadline for applications to be processed in time.
“As part of a separate permission process, we had already agreed to the company’s request to site their event on the red blaes pitch at Victoria Park so they could include a food van in their attraction.
“But their incomplete licensing application was submitted too late to be accepted and this means they are now unable to go ahead with their event.”
