AN initiative aimed at helping the elderly recollect their favourite sporting moment is coming to Drumchapel following a successful launch in Clydebank.
Teaming up with Drumchapel United Football Club, charity Sporting Memories are bringing their free weekly sessions to the Kinfauns Centre following on from setting up in Clydebank in July.
Sporting Memories are a club which uses the of remembering and talking about sport alongside physical activity to support older people aged 50+ to live better lives, including those living with dementia, depression, or living in isolation and lonely circumstances.
Last month, the Clydebank Post reported about the scheme starting in Clydebank and during those classes, organisers were asked if they would be running something similar in Drumchapel.
And the charity says they are 'delighted' to be expanding their network to “The Drum” with the support of Drumchapel United.
A spokesperson told the Post: "It’s a great opportunity for local people from all backgrounds to not only share their stories but to also partake in a weekly session that ignites old memories through photographs and quizzes as well as getting active again with a range of fun games and inclusive exercises.
"And if that isn’t enough, there’s also the opportunity to have a cup of tea or coffee (normally with some biscuits included as well) at half-time.
"We believe the sessions are ideal for members who have an extra bit of time to go along and they welcome all to their sessions.
"The club in Drumchapel is looking for both members to come along and enjoy the weekly sessions as well as local people who have the time and interest to volunteer to help run or support the clubs."
Launched in 2010, Sporting Memories supports a wide range of people aged 50+, from those living with dementia, living with depression or facing isolation and loneliness to improve their mental and physical wellbeing through our regular club sessions, situated within local communities across England, Scotland and Wales.
The Drumchapel club launches on August 16 with a weekly session running from between 10am till 11.30am at The Kinfauns Centre, 436 Kinfauns Drive, Glasgow, G15 7NE.
