Two kids were spoken to by social services after the man and woman they were travelling with started fighting with each other on a train heading towards Clydebank.
The incident occurred just after 5.30pm on Saturday (September 16) on board a ScotRail train going from Balloch to Airdrie.
Around 15 minutes into the journey, a verbal argument between the man and woman - who it is believed got on the train together - allegedly turned physical, causing some passengers to get off the train early at Bowling.
The British Transport Police (BTS) were alerted and stopped the train at Dalmuir.
A 37-year-old man from Airdrie was arrested at the scene and both the man and woman were taken to hospital as a result of the injuries they had reportedly inflicted on each other.
An investigation is ongoing.
A BTS spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Dalmuir railway station shortly after 5.30pm on Saturday (16 September) following reports of a man and woman fighting on board a train.
"A 37-year-old man from Airdrie was arrested at the scene.
"Paramedics also attended and both people were later taken to hospital.
"Police worked with social services to support two children who were travelling with the pair and are now in the care of family.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
