A MUCH-LOVED Clydebank couple has been hailed by the area's Provost after they celebrated 50 years of wedding bliss at the weekend.
Douglas McAllister attended the Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration of Billy and Jeanette Stevenson at Hardgate Golf Club on Saturday, September 30.
The Faifley couple are well-known in the area thanks to their work with the Scouts and Girlguiding as well as being active with the local housing association and Faifley Parish Church.
They toasted their five decades of marriage with their two children, Carol Ann and Craig, and three grandchildren, Rebecca, Cameron and Robyn.
And Provost McAllister expressed his joy and seeing the pair mark the milestone.
He said: "It was a great privilege for me to pop in and congratulate such a fantastic couple.
"Billy and Jeanette have been involved in Scouting and Girlguiding all of their lives.
"Billy is also on the committee of the local Knowes Housing Association in Faifley and has been the secretary there for over 30 years, and Jeanette is a very active member of Faifley Parish Church and Faifley Upcycle.
"It was my opportunity to thank them for their lifetime of volunteering and caring for others.
"They have helped so many local people over the years be it in Guiding, the Scouts, Knowes Housing or their local church.
"And therefore it was my pleasure to extend my congratulations on the occasion of their Golden Wedding."
Billy and Jeanette knew each other from their school days and started dating a few years later.
They eventually got engaged in January 1972 and married on September 21, 1973.
