Man caught on CCTV hitting dog outside shop in Clydebank

A MAN was caught on CCTV beating his dog outside of a shop in Clydebank.

The incident, which was also witnessed by a member of the public, is reported to have taken place on Montrose Street on Tuesday, October 10.

The footage reportedly shows the man tie the young black and white collie up outside of the shop.

He is said to then go in before immediately running back out and slapping the dog three times causing it to cower and fall on its side.

The Scottish SPCA (SSPCA) is now appealing for more information regarding the incident.

The man is described as tall and lean, in his early to mid-twenties with blonde hair.

He was seen to be wearing a navy hoodie and is believed to be local to the area.

Laura McIntyre, SSPCA chief inspector, said: “We are keen to trace the gentleman captured in the CCTV and make sure the dog is okay.

“The man is described as being tall and lean, in his early to mid-twenties with blonde hair.

"He was wearing a navy hoodie at the time of the incident. From the enquiries we have already carried out, we believe he is local to the area.

"The dog he had with him is a black and white collie and appeared to be relatively young from the video footage.

“During the incident in question, the man ties the collie up outside the shop and goes inside.

"Almost immediately afterwards he runs out of the shop and slaps the dog three times, causing them to cower and fall on their side.

“When confronted by a passer-by the man claimed the dog was chewing their lead and this was the reason he was hitting the animal.

“The man goes back into the shop and when he returns to untie the collie they are still visibly frightened.

“No animal should be subjected to physical violence and this is not the correct way to train any animal displaying unwanted behaviour.
