TWO Clydebank high school pupils have promised to put on a show as they take the lead in an upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.
St Peter the Apostle High youngsters Evie McColgan and Euan Reid are starring as Dorothy and the Scarecrow in Clydebank Musical Society Juniors upcoming show 'The Wiz.'
The performance is a re-telling of the popular classic story but will come with a funky soundtrack of soul, gospel and even a bit of disco music.
And Evie, 16, told the Clydebank Post she can't wait to take to the stage in what will be her first lead role.
She said: "Dorothy’s quite innocent, I think.
"She’s quiet, but strong-willed too, and that resonates with me.
"I’ve learned so much about myself, and the thought of being on the stage and being the centre of it all is really exciting.”
Alongside Evie, Euan, also 16, has been a member of the CMS since he joined the adult production of 'Oliver!', playing the title character, and he admits he has worked hard on one particular aspect of his upcoming performance.
Euan said: "Dancing is the one thing I’ve struggled with, but this year has given me more of a drive to work on it.
"I’m least looking forward to the possibility of breaking a leg for real, though!”
CMS Juniors has been part of the local theatre scene for over 30 years, and Evie and Euan are both looking forward to seeing where the club can go next.
Evie added: “CMS is so inclusive, and anyone can get involved.
"It’s a huge part of so many young people’s lives.”
“It teaches you so much about yourself and builds your confidence so much. I never thought I was a dancer or that I could act until I came here.”
Euan finished: "You make friends for life, working with so many people that have the same interests as you, but it’s not just about that.
"It’s also affordable and accessible to so many people. It’s a great place.”
The four-night run of 'The Wiz' will start on Wednesday, November 1 at 7.30pm at Clydebank Town Hall.
There will also be a 2pm matinee on Saturday, November 4.
Ticket information can be found on the CMS Facebook page or can be purchased at the door.
