Clydebank's Scotland star has revealed the reason behind his famous trademark celebration with a nod to a family member cited.

John McGinn opened up on his goggles celebration revealing that it is down to his nephew Jack who has to wear them to play football. 

The 29-year-old, who attended St Columba's High School, wanted to try and support his nephew by pretending to wear them whenever he scored to help him not feel out of place on the park.

McGinn said that he also wants to help inspire other children who wear goggles on the football pitch as he spoke at Aston Villa's press conference.

He said: "My nephew, he's got poor eyesight and he has to wear goggles to play football.

"So, I decided it would maybe give him a bit of support to put the goggles on when I score.

"Now he's happy.

"His teammates, at football up in Scotland, they carry on the celebration and he can wear his goggles.

"And I'm sure it'll hopefully inspire [some people]. A lot of children and a lot of people I played with when I was younger had to wear the goggles and when you're younger it's difficult.

"You feel socially kind of out of it but it's just a wee thing, a nod to Jack, and now it's kind of stuck."
