EIGHTY-EIGHT new affordable homes are set to be completed in Clydebank later this year.

The development is currently under construction in Clydebank East and is set to be ready before the end of 2024.

It is being built as part of West Dunbartonshire Council’s (WDC) ambitious house-building programme.

So far, the More Homes programme has seen 1000 new affordable homes built in the region.

The local authority is aiming to deliver 2500 new social and affordable homes by 2032.

Alongside the 88 new homes in Clydebank East, work on a new 26-home development – including five four-bedrooms - in Bonhill is to begin in the coming weeks, subject to planning conditions being given the green light.

This is in response to ‘greater demand from larger families’ within the area.

The sustainable new build programme is 100 per cent net zero which aligns with WDC’s commitment to tackling the climate emergency.

Energy-efficient measures within the new homes will also allow residents to see a reduction in their future fuel bills within the new properties.

Councillor Gurpreet Singh Johal, convener of housing and communities, said: “This is an incredibly positive report which reaffirms the council’s commitment to developing affordable homes for people in our community.

“I am particularly pleased that the council is creating homes suitable for larger families in order to reduce the risk of overcrowding.

“This is a positive and important step in responding to the changing needs of our residents.”
