A BRAVE Clydebank schoolboy who is the inspiration behind a local charity will be honoured at this year’s Pride of Scotland Awards.
Caleb Stirrat will receive the Child of Courage trophy at the annual event which is being held in Glasgow on May 20.
The eight-year-old was diagnosed with atypical teratoid rhabdoid – a form of brain and spine cancer - in 2019.
Caleb, alongside his triplet sisters Poppy and Alyssia, helped his parents launch a charity – Caleb’s Trio of Hope (CTH) – in 2022 to support other families going through palliative care with their children.
In the last two years, CTH has raised around £17,000.
Karen, Caleb's mum, said: “We have a fund to help families create memories with their child and also provide support when they have passed away.
“We’re always going to be there down the line.”
Caleb underwent proton beam therapy in America but his tumour returned in 2020 and his family were told it was terminal.
Following an operation to remove the tumour the youngster is being treated with a trial drug and his condition is described as stable.
He has been hailed as “remarkable” by his proud mum.
Karen added: “We can’t believe how far he’s come. I’m not going to say it’s not hard because some days you’re so tired you’re in tears.
“But he is remarkable in everything he does and achieves.”
The Pride of Scotland Awards were launched five years ago and honour people transforming the lives of those around them.
This year’s winners range from age seven to 67.
Host Sanjeev Kohli, who starred in the popular Scottish TV show Still Game, said: "No matter how bleak the news is, or whatever may be happening in our own lives, Pride of Scotland reminds us what really matters.
“The winners are the most incredible people you could hope to meet, and it will be a privilege to help shine a light on their achievements."
Scottish actress Elaine C. Smith, who is also hosting the event, added: "Pride of Scotland is the most magical night of the year, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be back.
“It's a real honour to celebrate truly remarkable people who make us so proud to be Scots. I know there will be a few tears, but plenty of laughs too, and I can't wait."
The ceremony is being organised by the Daily Record in partnership with TSB.
