CANDIDATES have been chosen to fight the Clydebank Central by-election next month.

Seven parties have selected who will contest the vote on Thursday, June 13.

The by-election has been called after disgraced former independent councillor Craig Edward resigned from West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) in March.

The successful candidate will join the three councillors who currently represent this ward; councillor Diane Docherty (Independent), councillor Clare Steel (Labour), and councillor Sophie Traynor (Scottish National Party).

Candidates for the Clydebank Central by-election

  • Fiona Hennebry – Scottish Labour Party
  • Nathan Hennebry – Communist Party of Britain
  • Ewan McGinnigle – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
  • Andrew Joseph Muir – Independent
  • Kai Robert Murray Pyper – Scottish Liberal Democrats
  • Marina Scanlan – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Kelly Wilson – Sovereignty

This election will be decided using the Single Transferable Vote electoral system where candidates are ranked by number in order of preference.

Number one would therefore go next to the name of the representative who is the voter’s first choice, two next to their second choice, and so on.

There is no limit to the number of preferences a voter can have, they can choose to only select a first choice or rank every candidate.

This system is used for council elections in multi-member wards.

Bankies living in this ward will be able to vote between 7am and 10pm on the day.

There will be ten polling stations available.

Voters are encouraged to check which station they should head along to.
