1. Jannie John’s bench

(Image: Archives) A memorial bench in honour of a former school janitor was unveiled. The wooden structure is dedicated to the memory of John Rush, St Brendan’s Primary long serving caretaker who passed away in 2008.

2. Support for forces

(Image: Archives) A flag was hoisted high above West Dunbartonshire Council’s HQ at the weekend to mark the first ever Armed Forces Day. The nation celebrated the special day to give people an opportunity to show their support for the men and women who make up the forces community.

3. Flying Scot's pride of Freemanship

(Image: Archives) Living legend Sir Jackie Stewart admitted that being handed the freedom of West Dunbartonshire in front of his family ranked among his best achievements.

4. Talented player makes his mark

(Image: Archives) A talented footballer who came to the area with his father to escape the horror of war in their home country is on the road to Hampden after gaining caps with his adoptive nation.

Ashim Burungu, 15, was brought into the ranks at Drumchapel United when he was spotted by the manager as a raw 12-year-old who had never played an organised game.

5. Devoted footie fans clean up their Holm
