Voters in Scotland are reminded to bring their photographic ID to vote in the General Election next month.

This year's election, held on Thursday, July 4, will see a new rule requiring residents to present identification, such as a valid passport or driver’s licence, at polling stations to cast their vote.

A list of confirmed voter ID has been published online, which includes a valid passport, driver's licence, blue badge, and Scottish National Entitlement Card.

Only one form of ID is needed, and this cannot be a photocopy.

Voters without any pre-approved forms of identification can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate online.

Alternatively, West Dunbartonshire residents can inquire with the Electoral Registration Office.

The deadline to apply is 5pm on June 26.

The West Dunbartonshire constituency has gone through boundary changes that are now in effect.

Residents are advised to check polling cards to confirm polling station locations.

Peter Hessett, chief executive and returning officer, said: "The General Election this year is a big change for everyone including seasoned voters and staff working at our polling places.

"However, please don't let this deter you from casting your ballot; your vote counts and this is an important election which will decide who will represent our area in Westminster.

"Our election team has been working hard to ensure that this day runs smoothly.

"All voters need to do is bring a valid form of ID and mark 'X' next to the candidate of their choice."

Polling stations will open at 7am and close at 10pm on Thursday, July 4.
