CLYDEBANK MSP Marie McNair has called on Douglas McAllister MP to back amendments to the King’s speech this week and support the immediate removal of the two-child benefit cap.
The two-child policy was introduced by the previous Conservative government in 2017
Save the Children have said scrapping the cap is the most cost-effective way to reduce child poverty – lifting 300,000 children out of poverty.

Recent DWP figures show that the policy affects over one in six children in West Dunbartonshire in receipt of Universal Credit or Child Tax Credits.
The SNP and some Labour MPs have tabled amendments to the King’s speech that call for the immediate scrapping of the two-child policy.
Marie McNair MSP said: "The Westminster two-child cap is keeping at least 300,000 children in poverty and its rape clause is the most abhorrent social security policy ever created.
"This policy was brought in by the Tories at the height of their hugely damaging austerity drive.
"I’m disgusted that the new Labour Government are not acting immediately to scrap it and lift these children out of poverty.
"It is a policy that is denying children’s basic needs, including food and clothing, to families in Clydebank and across the UK.
"Most families impacted are in work which just shows how perverse this policy is."
