A DRUMCHAPEL charity is teaming up with a local football team to put on an event this weekend.

Dumbarton FC Walking Football team will host teams from across the region in a fun tournament to boost the coffers of Drumchapel social enterprise Enable Glasgow Fortune Works.

The fun event will kick-off at 12pm at the Argyll Park Astro Pitches in Alexandria on Sunday, July 28, with up to ten teams set to take part all for a great cause.

Fortune Works is a social enterprise in Drumchapel which supports people with learning disabilities.

Their mission is to empower individuals, offering training opportunities and enabling them to make a valuable economic contributions to the community. The service operates a full-time program from 9am to 4pm, focusing on personal and social development.

Fortune Works encourages community involvement through various projects, balancing group activities with individual timetables. They provide 120 full-time placements for adults with learning disabilities from across the city, offering vital social support to participants.

A number of ex-pros and well-known faces will take part on the day as teams battle it out for the annual trophy, followed by a presentation ceremony.

Each year the team chooses a different charity to support through the festival and this year they chose Fortune Works thanks to its amazing work with adults with a learning disability.

Jason Methven, Fortune Works Social Enterprise coordinator and Dumbarton FC Walking Football player is delighted organisers chose the Drumry Road East service.

He said: “It’s great that Dumbarton have picked Fortune Works as their chosen charity as the money raised will go a long way to help support the work we are doing.

“Dumbarton FC dedication to supporting charities and community spirit is fantastic.

“I played in last year’s festival and it was a fantastically ran event that raised a lot for the MS Society.

"Fortune Works have also entered a team with the players all connected to Fortune Works or Drumchapel in some way.

“There is rumour also of some ex-professionals taking part so it’s a day not to be missed so please come down and support all the teams taking part, it will make a huge difference to the support we offer to some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
