A Clydebank drinks company that manufactures non-alcoholic spirits went from a dad showing off to his son to becoming a global award-winning retailer.
Roddy Nicoll, 58, and his brother Kerr Nicholl, 57, started Spirits of Virtue five years ago after a conversation with Roddy's son who dared him to do it.
Sitting with his family at an event, Roddy was having a few drinks when his son challenged him on his choice of beverage.
Roddy said: "This whole thing started when we were having a family drink and my son said to me, why do you drink that? I knew what was coming. He was asking me about alcohol so I was trying to defend myself.
"Then he said to me 'Why don’t you try to make something without alcohol?'
"That was really it, I was just making a point to my son. It grew arms and legs and I knew nothing about non-alcoholic spirits.
"Everybody was thinking ‘Oh you must have seen a gap in the market’ or used all this analytical data but no, I was just a dad showing off to his son."
Roddy has worked in confectionary for most of his life before venturing into the world of alcohol-free spirits.
Now the company sells to 26 countries across the globe with offices in Santa Monica, Prague and Dubai.

Clydebank became the starting point for the company as he moved to the town to be with his partner, so for him, it was the best place to create a base.
He added: "Naturally we would start the business in Clydebank. My younger brother and I are very, very proud that we make our products on the banks of the Clyde and ship them all over the world now.
"It's been a long, long journey. When we first started, I had to explain the concept to absolutely everybody. It's not the easiest place in the world, the West Coast of Scotland, to start up a non-alcoholic business."
His products which are low in calories, gluten-free, halal approved and entirely non-alcoholic use water from the Cairngorms to craft their products.
Having won five previous Great Taste Awards, their latest win is their Glen Dochus Island Blend, a homage to whisky that won a prestigious two-star award last week.
Within their five years in business, the company has branched out to become a leading producer of non-alcoholic spirits.
Roddy and his brother have tapped into the American market claiming that one in every seven bottles of non-alcoholic drinks sold on Amazon US is from his company.
Closer to home they also produce Asda's own brand of alcohol-free gin.
Despite his business taking him across the globe making deals and selling products, Roddy has never forgotten his roots.
He said: "I always wear my kilt while travelling, I'm very proud of saying I can throw a stone from my factory into the Clyde. Why would I not tap into that heritage?
"No matter where you go in the world, you put on a kilt and people love you. It's so identifiable."
Roddy's next goal for the company is ambitious as he plans to employ 19 more staff at his Clydebank factory on Cable Depot Road before the end of the year.
He also aims to sign off on some exclusive deals with major American retailers including the supermarket Walmart.
He said: "You hope for success, we always do. Success is not a destination, it's just a journey. What we have in our company is a unique group of people who are important so we don’t take our foot off the pedal at any point.
"We are always pushing – we are not in China yet, South East Asia is new to us. We want to go coast to coast in America so you can walk into any supermarket and get it.
"The whole non-alcohol thing is just opening up."
