WASPI campaigners in West Dunbartonshire say their MP is 'well-informed' after meeting with him following news their campaign will be heard by a government minister next month.

Liz Daly, co-ordinator of West Dunbartonshire WASPI said the new MP Douglas McAllister was 'well-informed' and 'very supportive' of their campaign as she met with him on Saturday (August 23).

In a recent announcement, Emma Reynolds, the under-secretary of state for pensions agreed to meet Women Against State Pension Injustice (WASPI) representatives which is the 'first time there will be a face-to-face meeting'.

On March 21 this year, the Parliamentary & Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) published their final report. It announced that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) was guilty of maladministration because it failed to provide proper information to 1950s women about delays to their State Pension age.

It said that the women involved suffered injustice and as a result, they should receive compensation.

Liz says she was also delighted to hear that Douglas has agreed to attend a drop-in session in Westminster, arranged by WASPI, on September 11 to ensure all MPs understood that the PHSO had recommended compensation, based on maladministration by the DWP and that it was Parliament’s duty to implement this.

Liz said: “Injustice has been proven and we are due compensation. The Government must understand the urgency of this matter. One 1950s woman dies every 13 minutes so we need the compensation scheme now. There is no time to lose.”
