A construction group will be sponsoring a new course by West College Scotland at its Clydebank campus to help students bridge the gap into construction apprenticeships.
The college has partnered with Morrison Construction to introduce the Transition to Hard Hat Careers course.
The programme, set at SCQF Level 4, will provide students with an overview of the construction sector and allow them to explore various trades, including plumbing, electrical, and bricklaying, before deciding which career path they wish to pursue.
With the support of Morrison Construction, students will gain industry insight through site visits, career talks from key supply chain members, and work experience opportunities.
This hands-on exposure is intended to improve students' employability and open doors to potential job opportunities.
Morrison Construction has also donated essential tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure students have everything they need for their studies.
Dr Lee Coutts said: "The course is not just an educational programme; it’s a pathway to a sustainable career.
"By allowing students to try their hand at various trades, they can make informed decisions about their future.
"The course is also testament to the power of partnership working and underscores both organisations' commitment to investing in the future of young people in our region.”
Jim Johnstone, of Morrison Construction Building Central, said: "Helping educate the next generation of construction workers is vital for businesses like Morrison Construction, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with West College to develop this programme.
"We look forward to welcoming the students to our sites and introducing them in hands-on way to the fantastic range of careers available in our great industry.”
