A granddaughter has described her 'disgust' after her gran was left bleeding on the street after a vicious dog attack.
Maud Morrison, 81, was walking her miniature poodle, Alfie, near her home in Duntocher when another dog attacked the pair.
The incident that took place yesterday left Alfie with puncture wounds and Maud with a big puncture on her leg which was bleeding profusely.
However, when the gran shouted for help, she said the attacking dog's owner took his pet and left her.
Her granddaughter, Ailish, has described her 'disgust' at hearing the owner left Maud bleeding on the street.
She said: "It's absolutely horrendous. She’s 81 years of age and she was just taking her dog out for a walk.
"The owner was holding the lead but I think the dog is quite big and perhaps uncontrollable, but when the dog ran the guy let go of the lead.
"It just came running right up to my gran and went for them both. Her leg got bitten and the owner witnessed the full thing.
"My gran was shouting: ‘My legs bleeding, you need to help me’ and the guy just walked away from her."
Grabbing Alfie, Maud was able to stumble down the road before reaching a neighbour's house for help.
An ambulance was then called to take her to hospital for treatment whilst Alfie was taken to the PDSA Animal Hospital in Glasgow.
Ailish says the whole ordeal has been 'horrendous' and has had a big effect on her gran and her dog.
She added: "My gran had to carry her wee dog all the way back round the road and the blood was pouring out her leg.
"Our neighbour sat with her until my mum and cousin came and then the ambulance took her up to the hospital.
"They were quite worried because the bleeding wasn't stopping, but eventually, it did and she got out of the hospital at about 9pm last night.
"I think this is going to have an impact on her, and the dog too, he’s traumatised, and he's not left her side.
"I had opened the front door for him to go out into the front garden to do the toilet earlier on and he wouldn't go out.
"My gran is out and about all the time with Alfie but the two of them are really scared about going out now."
Ailish is asking for anyone who can help identify the man to help the police with their investigation out of fear it could happen again.
She said: "It's so scary because it happened around 3pm. At that time, the schools were just coming out. I keep thinking 'What if my wee boy was there?' or if the dog ended up getting a hold of a child.
"The owner has witnessed the full thing and he's just walked away and left her, not bothered to help. It's disgusting.
"To think a dog like that is out wandering the streets is really dangerous."
Police Scotland have confirmed they are making enquiries into the incident.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 3.35pm on Thursday, September 19, 2024, officers received a report a woman had been injured by a dog on Beeches Road, Duntocher.
“An 81-year-old woman was taken to hospital.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
