The SNP has named Adekemi Giwa as the candidate for the upcoming Drumchapel/Anniesland council by-election.

The by-election was triggered by Patricia Ferguson's resignation from her council seat after being elected as the Labour MP for Glasgow West.

Giwa believes her extensive community work will be an asset if she is elected.

She said: "People across Drumchapel/Anniesland have been suffering over the last 14 years, I've seen that first hand with the service users at my own organisation."

The organisation delivers mentoring, workshops, and capacity building through artistic expression.

Giwa is critical of Labour's "threat to cut £15 million of investment in Drumchapel town centre".

She said: "People who use my organisation face many barriers, one of the biggest is socio-economic challenges.

"These barriers will not be lifted if Labour continues to deliver the same austerity as the Tories.

"People in this community are tired of broken promises, and won't accept more from the new Labour UK Government.

"One of their first acts was to cut the Winter Fuel Allowance for most pensioners, at a time when energy bills are rising again.

"Their threat to cut £15 million of investment in Drumchapel town centre, promised by the last government, would be a betrayal of this community and must not happen."

Glasgow City Council have confirmed the by-election will take place on November 21.
