Dunbartonshire residents are being called to recognise outstanding volunteer-led groups.

The prestigious King's Award for Voluntary Service celebrates the extraordinary contributions of volunteer groups to communities across the United Kingdom.

The award, equivalent to an MBE, is a testament to the exceptional work of these groups, highlighting their significant impact on communities.

To be eligible for nomination, groups must have been active in volunteering for a minimum of three years, benefiting communities either within the UK or overseas.

More than half of the group members must be volunteers with the right of residence in the UK, and the group must provide a specific benefit.

Groups primarily focused on fundraising for charities or solely aiding animals are not eligible for the award.

Anne Smillie DL, chair of the Dunbartonshire Panel for The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS), said: "There are a huge number of unsung heroes in Dunbartonshire and it is important they are recognised.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to acknowledge and celebrate the selfless efforts of our volunteer groups across Dunbartonshire.

"Volunteer groups play a crucial role in building a strong and supportive community.

"Their actions often go unnoticed, but through initiatives like The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, we aim to shine a well-deserved spotlight on their incredible work."

Nominations for this esteemed award must be submitted by external sources, illustrating the widespread appreciation for the contributions made by these volunteer-led groups.

Detailed information on eligibility criteria and the straightforward nomination process can be found at kavs.dcms.gov.uk.

Nominations for the 2025 awards will open on September 1, 2024, and must be submitted by the closing date of December 1, 2024.

This is an opportunity for Dunbartonshire residents to help bring recognition to the invaluable work of their volunteer groups.
