A DUNTOCHER-BORN author is set to release her 11th book next month, calling it her "darkest" yet.

Emma Clapperton, who writes under the pseudonym Alex Kane, launches her new title 'A Mother's Revenge' on Thursday, November 7.

The majority of her published work falls under the gangland thriller genre and the latest book is no exception.

It follows on from her previous title 'The Two Sisters' and is the third novel in the Janey Hallahan series.

The story covers Cheryl Davidson, whose son, Dean, is murdered and she subsequently finds out that both he and her husband have gangland connections in Glasgow.

Emma opened up on what inspired her to write another chapter in the series.

Speaking to the Post, she said: "Janey’s story wasn’t over, and neither was her granddaughter’s, Molly Rose Hunter.

"I love delving into the darkest corners of fiction and the research is always fun.

"This book is dark, gritty and I really wanted to push the characters to their limits.

"In doing that, I am taking myself out of my comfort zone and I love doing that as a writer."

The author explained what led her to get into writing.

She continued: "I spoke to a colleague just before I started writing and her husband has been writing an American gangster novel for years.

"She did not think he would ever get it finished and that sparked something in me.

"I thought ‘I really feel like giving this a go’. That was in 2010, and it took me till 2018 to get picked up by a serious publisher.

"I had a bit of a turbulent journey for publishers from the get-go. There were previous publishers who promised the world, and nothing really came of it.

"Then Hera Books [who have published all of her titles] came along and I could not be happier with them."

Despite her newest title not being released yet, Emma is already planning ahead for the future.

She added: "I have one more to release from this contract, which comes out in Spring 2025.

"They haven’t announced the title or cover yet, but I am very excited about it as it’s coming out in hardback.

"After that I have plans for four crime thrillers, taking me to the end of 2027.

"I have two of the four planned and at the moment I am working on the structural edits for my 12th book."
