Work on 19 council homes in Old Kilpatrick progresses

Construction on 19 council properties on a site in Old Kilpatrick which began earlier this year is beginning to take shape.

The Mount Pleasant plot comprises a mix of properties, including cottages, flats, and terraced bungalows, which are to be low-carbon after being installed with zero-emission heating systems.

The new development is on the site of the former West Dunbartonshire care home off Dumbarton Road, which was demolished in December 2022.

“This will be a welcome and vibrant area, in close proximity to good transport links, which will help people stay active in the community.”

The council says this is just one of the sites currently under construction as they progress with developing new build homes while subject to unprecedented demand for housing.

Councillor Hazel Sorrell, vice convener of housing and communities, added: “It’s incredible to see the progress of this important development already and I am looking forward to hearing about the positive experiences that the new residents will have once they move in.”

CCG (Scotland) Ltd is the contractor for this development and will recruit at least two employees from West Dunbartonshire, offer eight work placements and have eight career-based activities with local schools.

The firm says that as part of the council contract they are committed to paying all staff a real living wage and endeavours to use local companies for sub-contracting opportunities where possible.
