A fireworks display that was to take place in Clydebank next week is no longer going ahead after the event didn't obtain a license.

Innovation Flooring Ltd was planning on hosting a 20-minute-long display in John Brown's Park on Tuesday, November 5.

Company owner, David, says they have hosted a 'safe' for the past three years but due to a number of complaints, West Dunbartonshire Council contacted the company to inform them that they required a license.

David said: "For the past three years, we’ve hosted a safe and family-friendly fireworks display enjoyed by local families and friends. This year, West Dunbartonshire Council contacted us about licensing requirements after receiving reports from members of the public, and we complied fully.

"We completed the application form they provided, ensured full insurance coverage, and paid the required fee. Despite meeting all conditions, we were informed that a license could not be granted for this year, though it may be possible with an earlier application in future years.

"This year, we invested significantly in professional-grade, display-quality fireworks sourced directly from a licensed supplier. These are specialized pyrotechnics specifically designed for controlled displays, ensuring a spectacular and safe experience."

West Dunbartonshire Council has said that the application was not submitted with enough time for it to be processed.

David says they will instead be setting the fireworks off from a private property located adjacent to the park around 7pm ensuring that they 'proceed within the law'.

He added: "To be absolutely clear, we’re not encouraging a public gathering. Parks, as we all know, are open spaces for the community to enjoy whenever they choose. So, if anyone happens to be in the area around 7 pm and looks up to see a dazzling display in the sky, that’s simply a bonus to their evening stroll.

"Innovation Flooring is proudly rooted in our community. We believe in giving back, whether through regular donations to our local food bank or by providing free carpets to families in need. Supporting our neighbours isn’t just a nice gesture—it’s part of who we are."

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokesperson said: “The application was not submitted within a sufficient timeframe for it to be processed before the intended event.”
