Nursery children in West Dunbartonshire received a special visit from Road Safety Scotland character Ziggy this week.

The visits aim to equip youngsters with road safety skills and knowledge.

The eight nurseries that welcomed Ziggy included Kilbowie ELCC, Whitecrook ELCC, Loretto Primary School & ELCC, St Eunan’s Primary School & ELCC, Balloch Nursery School, Andrew B Cameron ELCC, Dalreoch Primary School & ELCC, and Renton Primary School & ELCC.

The children enjoyed an interactive performance with Ziggy, an alien character learning about road safety on Earth.

Activity stations provided an immersive learning experience.

A playmat with a town-scape, including traffic lights and a zebra crossing, reinforced road safety skills through imaginative play.

Laura Mason, chief education officer at West Dunbartonshire Council, said: "The children were very excited to see Ziggy at Kilbowie ELCC and were keen to hear the important road safety message delivered during the visit.

"Ziggy helped the children understand how important road safety is and strengthened the key messages our schools and ELCCs are regularly teaching children and young people on how to stay safe on our roads."

Debbie Nicol, assistant director at Road Safety Scotland, said: "It is important that children are immersed in positive road safety attitudes from a young age, both in the classroom and at home, and we know that early experiences shape children’s future behaviour.

"Ziggy is a fun character with an important message and visits like these help create lasting memories about road safety."
