Determined businessman finds legal loophole to hold fireworks display

Innovation Flooring Ltd based in Clydebank and Renfrew wanted to have their fourth annual display in John Brown's Park on Tuesday, November 5.

Company owner, David Woodcock, says they have hosted a 'safe' event for the past three years but due to a number of complaints, West Dunbartonshire Council contacted the company to inform them that they required a license.

However, after applying for it too late the company found a way around the issue.

David said: "With Clydebank’s official display cancelled again, along with Drumchapel, I felt a responsibility to bring the community together and ensure we have our own display for families who can’t travel to places like Dumbarton.

"Our communities are being stripped of every bit of enjoyment, and I will not allow that to happen here. I’m determined to keep this going and will continue to personally fund this event year after year to keep our traditions alive."

The fireworks display took place last night (Image: Supplied) (Image: Supplied) Ahmed Brothers Shop, a convenience store located on Dunmore Street - a street away from the park, became the solution as they offered up their private yard as a place to let the fireworks off.

This avenue of setting off the fireworks ensured David 'proceeded within the law'.
