Emergency services then raced to the scene. However, sadly, the pedestrian, a 56-year-old woman, was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the occupants of the blue Volkswagen Amarok were not injured.
Following the crash, the road was closed for several hours while investigations were carried out.
It reopened at around 10pm.
Officers have since revealed enquiries into the incident are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with police. Meanwhile, traffic cops are keen to speak to the driver of a silver van or minibus that was travelling eastbound before the crash.
Road Policing Sergeant Adnan Alam said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died.
"We’re offering them support and will continue to do so as our investigations progress.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has come forward with information so far. We know there was a silver-coloured van or minibus travelling eastbound just before the collision and I’m keen to speak to that driver as they may have vital information.
“Anyone with dashcam footage of Dumbarton Road around the time is also asked to review this and bring anything of significance to our attention.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: "Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 2867 of November 7, 2024."
