A local politician has slammed the Scottish Government over their "lack of urgency" in terms of "updating" Drumchapel Health Centre.

Dr Sandesh Gulhane, regional MSP for Glasgow, says the centre, located on Kinfauns Drive, houses five GP practices and is struggling to serve a rapidly growing patient population in "completely unacceptable" conditions.

Last month at First Minister's questions, asked John Swinney if he would visit the centre and "see how badly the people of Drumchapel are being let down".

Neil Gray, the health secretary, has confirmed that he will visit the site in February.

However, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP feels the visit next year represents an "unacceptable delay" in the handling of the health centre.

Gulhane said: "While I’m pleased that health secretary Neil Gray has agreed to visit Drumchapel Health Centre, the delay is deeply disappointing given the urgent need for action at a service that is stretched to breaking point - and it is unacceptable to defer critical improvements to some far-off date.

“Drumchapel’s residents and dedicated healthcare staff deserve immediate solutions, not bureaucratic delays and while the health secretary’s visit is an important step, we cannot wait until 2025 to address these urgent issues.

“The people of Drumchapel deserve a safe, functional healthcare environment right now.

"I am calling on the Scottish Government to act immediately to relieve the centre’s intolerable strain and ensure no patient or healthcare worker is left in substandard conditions.”
