The candidates have been chosen for the Drumchapel/Anniesland by-election.

Six parties have selected who will contest the vote, along with one Independent, on Thursday, November 21.

The by-election was called after Patricia Ferguson resigned from Glasgow City Council due to being elected as the new MP for Glasgow West back in July.

The successful candidate will join the three other councillors who currently represent this ward; councillor Paul Carey [Labour], councillor Anne McTaggart [SNP] and councillor Fyeza Ikhlaq [SNP].

  • Adekemi Giwa - Scottish National Party
  • Elspeth Kerr - Independent
  • Christopher Lavelle - Scottish Green Party
  • Allan Douglas Lyons - Reform UK
  • Steven Morrison - Scottish Conservative and Unionist
  • Davena Rankin - Scottish Labour Party
  • Michael Edward Shields - Scottish Liberal Democrats

This election will be decided using the Single Transferable Vote electoral system where candidates are ranked by number in order of preference.

Number one would therefore go next to the name of the representative who is the voter’s first choice, two next to their second choice, and so on.

This system is used for council elections in multi-member wards.

Voting will get underway from 7am on November 21, with polling places remaining open until the vote closes at 10pm.

The deadline to register to vote for this election was midnight on November 5.

The deadline for new applications to vote by proxy was 5pm on November 6.
