THREE men from Clydebank and Drumchapel have appeared in court today accused of shooting a man in an alleged murder bid.
Gary Rooney, 32, Darren Beaton, 35, and Stephen Preston, 20, are said to have assaulted Javaid Akhtar, 52, at a shop in Glasgow's Govan, on October 25, 2024.
Court papers state that the trio while acting together "repeatedly discharged a firearm" at Mr Akhtar's body in Drumoyne Stores.
It is said to have been to his severe injury, danger of life and attempted murder.
A separate allegation said that the men set fire and caused significant damage to a Ford Fiesta near Edinbarnet Nursing Home in Clydebank.
The charge says that this was done with intent to defeat the ends of justice and attempted to defeat the ends of justice.
Mr Akhtar was taken to hospital at the time and his condition was described as stable.
The trio made no plea at a private hearing today at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Rooney, of Clydebank, Preston, of Drumchapel and Beaton, of Drumchapel, were remanded in custody and committed for further examination by Sheriff Patrick Hughes.
They will appear in court again within the next eight days.
