Here is a list of your candidates for this week's local councillor by-election in Clydebank.

Eight parties have selected who will contest the vote on Thursday, November 28.

The by-election has been called after Douglas McAllister resigned from West Dunbartonshire Council after becoming the new MP for the constituency back in July.

The successful candidate will join the two other councillors who currently represent this ward; councillor Lawrence O'Neill [Labour] and councillor Gordon Scanlan [SNP].

He said: "I have the right mix of knowledge, skills, and experience to effectively represent local residents on West Dunbartonshire Council.

"I promise to be accessible, to listen to residents’ views, and to work closely with community groups and volunteers.

"Local residents know best what needs to be done to make their communities better and I know I can help them to deliver the changes."

Scottish National Party - Marina Scanlan

Marina Scanlan, Scottish National Party candidateMarina Scanlan, Scottish National Party candidate (Image: Supplied) Marina has lived in Faifley for over 30 years and says she wants to oppose the battery storage proposals and fight for libraries and community centres.

She said: "I have a passion for assisting those with mental health struggles and addiction and as a councillor I would do all in my power to strive for access to these services which our residents deserve and need, with first-hand experience of failures of these systems I am well placed to advise on what needs to change.

"If elected as your local councillor I will vehemently oppose both of the battery storage proposals in the ward, I will be unwavering in this and use my voice to challenge these proposed developments at every opportunity."

Scottish Green Party - Paula Baker

She said: "With more people than ever facing conditions of poverty and inequality, nature continuing to be depleted and undervalued, and the impacts of climate change heading towards our doorstep, I feel more than ever that a voice must be given to these issues, working locally to act globally.

"I have worked for a national conservation organisation for almost 20 years. I strongly believe in a more inclusive and equal society, where we support our communities and value the natural world around us."

A spokesperson from the party said: "He has contributed work to support better buses for Strathclyde so that they can become more affordable and more accessible for the people of Strathclyde, too.

"Dylan cares about community issues and has spent time contributing to the Springburn Auditorium which provides music and arts events and activities for families living in an area which doesn't have the same amenities as other areas in Glasgow and he has the same passion for providing more for Clydebank too."

Independent - Andrew Muir

Andrew Muir, Independent candidateAndrew Muir, Independent candidate (Image: Supplied) Andrew is an independent candidate and has stood in various elections over the past ten years.

He said: "I am 66 a pensions actuary and a former Scottish chess champion. I believe in family values - pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-family. Kilpatrick needs someone not from the main parties with their in-fighting and block votes. It needs a different focus. I would improve the justice system.

"Having been unfairly arrested (and later acquitted), I know the pitfalls. From an academic background, I would like to raise educational standards where locally our libraries are being closed and nationally Scotland is falling down the world schools league tables. Mental health services are very poor and we need to move away from drugs to solve all our problems."

Other candidates include Ewan McGinnigle - Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, Kai O'Connor - Scottish Liberal Democrats and David Haydn Smith - Reform UK.
