Scottish Labour's candidate William Rooney has won the Kilpatrick by-election.
The vote was held following the resignation of Douglas McAllister who won this year's General Election and became MP for West Dunbartonshire.
Rooney will now join Labour councillor Laurence O'Neill and SNP councillor Gordon Scanlan in representing the people of Duntocher, Faifley and Hardgate.
The voting turnout for this by-election was 19.2% which meant 1,705 out of the eligible 8,879 voters took to the polls today.
Polls were open on Thursday, November 28 from 7am to 10pm with four polling stations open across the ward.
The count began as soon as the polls closed and the result was announced at 00.30am after several stages.
Making his victory speech, Rooney said: "I'll keep this brief as we all want to get home to our beds.
"A heartfelt thanks to the voters in Duntocher, Faifley and Hardgate. It's a tremendous privilege to be elected by the people across the ward.
"I will do my very best to represent and support you over the rest of the term."
Announcing the new Councillor, Returning Officer Peter Hessett said: “Congratulations to our newly elected councillor, William Rooney, and thank you to all of the candidates who put themselves forward to represent the people of the Kilpatrick Ward.
“Councillors play a vital role in our local communities, ensuring residents’ voices are heard, shaping decisions on key issues and striving for high standards in public services.
“I would also like to thank everyone who came out to vote in this by-election and acknowledge the hard work of our election team and count staff who ensured the process was efficient and fair.”
The voting process took six stages to complete where the votes of the least successful candidate were reallocated to their second choice under the Single Transferable Voting system.
