A MAN who groped a schoolgirl and a gran by pretending there was a spider on them has been ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work.

Kevin Uwaifo pounced on the 15-year-old in Glasgow's Southside on May 30, 2024.

The 20-year-old had followed her after school and stated: "You have a spider on your back."

Uwaifo, of Clydebank, ran his hand down her back before he grabbed her on the bottom.

Two days earlier, Uwaifo had approached a 53-year-old woman who was with her young grandkids at a supermarket.

He made a similar comment to her while holding his phone before he repeatedly rubbed her on the bottom.

Uwaifo pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to two charges of sexual assault.

Sheriff Anna Reid put Uwaifo under supervision for two years at today's sentencing as well as imposing the unpaid work.

Uwaifo is meantime awaiting sentence on two separate matters at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.

One of them includes Uwaifo following a woman into a lift, holding a mobile phone beside his face, and appearing to film her. He then followed her out onto the same floor, and asked a question. The woman was left in a state of fear and alarm.

Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier heard that the schoolgirl and her sister were walking home at the end of the day when Uwaifo followed them.

He said: "You have a spider on your back, can I touch your back to get it off?"

Prosecutor Stewart McLean stated: "He started caressing her back, running his hand down the length of her back.

"He then firmly grabbed her on the bottom, much to her alarm."

The two siblings were said to be "distressed" with the victim so upset that she cried.

Uwaifo was later picked out by the victim's 12-year-old sister at a police station and he was traced.

He told officers: "No, it wasn't me."

The court earlier heard that Uwaifo had been released on an undertaking two days at the time of the incident.

He had approached another victim at a Morrison's supermarket at the Glasgow Fort shopping centre in the city's Easterhouse.

The woman was with her two grandchildren when Uwaifo said to her from behind: "There is a spider on your back."

The woman turned around to see Uwaifo who was holding a mobile phone in his hand.

Mr McLean said: "He rubbed her bottom from side to side.

"He continued to caress her bottom while saying 'No it's still there'."

The woman moved away from Uwaifo who then fled the scene.

She contacted the manager who informed her that the incident would have been captured on CCTV.

Uwaifo later approached the woman again outside the supermarket and asked if she was "alright."

She replied: "No, I'm not alright. That's completely inappropriate."

Uwaifo said: "I thought you had a spider on your back."

The woman replied: "You need to stay, I've called the police."

Uwaifo then ran off for a second time but was picked up by police and arrested.

He stated: "I didn't touch her inappropriately, I approached. I don't know what happened."

Brian Cooney, defending, told the sentencing that his client displayed "reprehensible actions."

The lawyer added: "This is behaviour which is completely disgusting and it must have been extremely distressing for the victims involved in this.

"I have explained to him that the court will be concerned about protecting the public and that it will ensure that this conduct does not happen again."

Uwaifo was put on the sex offenders register for two years.
