A pantomime has helped raise thousands of pounds to support community events in Knightswood.

Performances of Robin Hood were staged at Knightswood Congregational Church (KCC) between November 27 and 30.

The production, titled 'Silly Willie', was adapted from the tale of the famous outlaw and written by Tom Walley.

It raised £5000 which members of KCC say will be used to fund future community events.

A further £400 was raised to support Men Matter.

The Killoch Drive church then boosted this total to £1000 which will assist the Glasgow-based charity in supporting men’s mental health.

Sheila Josey, director of 'Silly Willie', told the Glasgow Times that more than 1000 people attended the shows.

She said: “The panto at Knightswood Congregational Church has been going for about 50 years on and off and it’s still going strong.

“We had to miss 2021 due to Covid but in the last three years, we have raised almost £15,000 for charity with the panto alone.

“The events team have raised a further £10,000 with its community events. We really are a big family.

“More than half of the cast and crew are from two families. The others are friends of the families and no matter what age, they help build and paint the set.  

“Our Panto is a family-friendly and affordable event.”

The production was scripted by Tom Walley and directed by Sheila Josey.

Cast members included Iain Coia as Silly Willie, Kimberly Hain as Robin Hood, Allan Beck as Dame and Nanny Flapjack, Paul McCafferty as Friar Tuck, Brandon King as Sheriff, and Sheila Josey as Sniff.

Members of the church meet every Sunday at 11am for worship, community events, and more.

Over the past year KCC Events has held an afternoon tea, Spring, Summer, and Winter fayres, hosted an NHSGGC choir, a Michael Buble tribute evening, Remembrance Sunday, and various soup and sandwich lunches.

The church’s next event will take place on December 24 when they host a family Christmas Eve service.

This will begin at 7pm and all are welcome.
