Stagecoach West Scotland has strengthened its commitment to the communities it serves by supporting the Glasgow Times, Gazette, Barrhead News and Clydebank Post's Bank On Us campaign, a vital initiative aimed at helping families in need during the festive season.
Through its involvement, Stagecoach is not only facilitating access to essential resources and services but also promoting community spirit during a time of heightened financial pressure for many.
Transportation is often a lifeline, and Stagecoach West Scotland’s accessible and affordable services, including the free Under-22 and Over-60s bus passes, play a crucial role in ensuring families and individuals remain connected.
By operating across local community areas, Stagecoach serves as a bridge for those who might otherwise struggle to access support hubs, community resources, and even the company of loved ones.
“At this time of year, many families face significant challenges, from securing basic essentials to joining in festive celebrations,” said Fiona Doherty, Managing Director of Stagecoach West Scotland. “The Bank On Us campaign is about giving back to those less fortunate, allowing them to enjoy the season with their families. We are incredibly proud to support this amazing cause.”
The Bank On Us campaign is dedicated to reducing the pressures associated with the holiday season, offering families relief from the financial strain of providing for everyday essentials and participating in festive traditions. With Stagecoach’s help, the initiative extends its reach, allowing donations and support to flow more easily through the community. By organising collection and drop-off points, Stagecoach ensures that those in need can benefit directly from the campaign’s efforts.
Fiona Doherty emphasises the importance of this partnership in building community morale. “By actively involving our employees and the residents we serve, we aim to foster connections and provide meaningful support to local areas,” she explained.
Stagecoach’s support for Bank On Us reflects the company’s broader commitment to charitable causes. Throughout the year, Stagecoach West Scotland participates in a variety of initiatives that align with its core values of sustainability, community, and inclusivity. Earlier this year, staff joined the Kiltwalk to raise funds for charities such as Alzheimer Scotland, MND Scotland, Beatson Cancer Charity, and others. Employees covered distances ranging from 3 to 23 miles to support these important causes.
The company’s annual Santa’s Grotto initiative is another example of how Stagecoach integrates charitable giving into its operations. This year, the event has gone green, with Santa riding on the company’s new Enviro 100 electric buses. Children can hop aboard to meet Santa and receive a special gift, while proceeds from the event will support the Night Before Christmas Campaign.
These initiatives reflect a culture of community support that extends beyond the holiday season. Employees are encouraged to take part in fundraising activities and volunteering opportunities, with Stagecoach offering match funding for staff raising money for registered charities.
The company’s charitable efforts are deeply personal to many of its employees. One memorable initiative involved a group of Stagecoach staff tackling the Tough Mudder challenge to raise awareness for Motor Neurone Disease, inspired by a colleague and his son who were directly affected by the condition. These efforts highlight the strong bond between Stagecoach employees and the communities they serve.
The partnership with Bank On Us is another step in this ongoing commitment. Stagecoach employees have contributed to the campaign by raising funds, making donations, and assisting with collections and deliveries. Their involvement ensures that the campaign reaches as many families as possible, making a real difference during a particularly challenging time of year.
While Stagecoach West Scotland’s support for Bank On Us is firmly rooted in addressing immediate needs, the company also sees the initiative as part of a larger vision of community building. By enabling residents to connect with resources and each other, Stagecoach fosters a sense of togetherness that is especially valuable during the festive season.
“Working with Bank On Us aligns perfectly with our goal of being not just a transport provider, but an active presence in the communities we serve,” Fiona Doherty explained. “We believe it’s essential to give back to these communities, particularly during the holidays, when the pressures on families can feel overwhelming.”
Stagecoach West Scotland’s involvement in Bank On Us underscores its dedication to creating a positive impact, not only through its transportation services but also through its community-focused initiatives. By working closely with the Glasgow Times, the company is helping to ensure that families in need can experience the joy and warmth of the festive season.
Through its charitable activities, Stagecoach is proving that the spirit of giving can be just as mobile as its buses. By connecting communities, supporting employees’ efforts to give back, and partnering with initiatives like Bank On Us, the company is helping to drive change where it’s needed most.
Fiona Doherty summed up Stagecoach’s approach: “Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, and their dedication to helping others reflects the values we stand for as a company. The Bank On Us campaign is a wonderful example of how businesses can collaborate with the community to make a meaningful difference.”
