CLYDEBANK AND DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION The CDBA Short Carpet League week five games were played on Wednesday, November 6. Yoker go top of the league after getting back to winning ways whilst Singer lost their second away game in succession.

The full results were as follows: Yoker 8 Albion 2, Old Kilpatrick 9 Victoria Park 1, Radnor Park 7 Scotstounhill 3, Clydebank 8 Singer 2 and Yarrow 6 Dalmuir 4. After these results the league positions are: 1. Yoker 39 points, 2. Singer 35 points, 3. Yarrow 31 points, 4. Clydebank 30 points. The week six matches will be taking place tonight (Wednesday) starting at 6.45pm. The fixtures are: Singer v Albion, Scotstounhill v Victoria Park, Dalmuir v Old Kilpatrick, Yoker v Radnor Park and Clydebank v Yarow. The fixtures for week seven games to be played on Wednesday, November 20 are as follows: Albion v Scotstounhill, Victoria Park v Clydebank, Dalmuir v Singer, Radnor Park v Old Kilpatrick and Yarrow v Yoker.

The week five games have also been played in the CDBA Senior Short Carpet League. The results from matches played on Monday, November 4 were: Albion 3 Clydebank 3, Yoker 4 Dalmuir 2, Scotstounhill 4 Singer 2 and Victoria Park 4 Radnor Park 2. Despite not having a game Old Kilpatrick remain top of the league. The league placings are: 1. Old Kilpatrick 18 points, 2. Clydebank 16 points, 3. Dalmuir 15 points, 4. Singer 14 points. Dalmuir and Singer have both played one game more than the top two teams.

The week six games were due to be played on Monday, November 11. The fixtures for week seven matches to be held on Monday, November 18 are: Albion v Dalmuir, Yoker v Victoria Park, Clydebank v Old Kilpatrick and Singer v Radnor Park. Scotstounhill miss out this week.

The CDBA Dominoes League week five games were played on Monday, November 4. The results were as follows: Dalmuir 6 Radnor Park A 9, Radnor Park B 5 Singer 10 and Clydebank 6 Victoria Park 9. With a quarter of the games gone each team have played against each other. League positions (after week five): 1. Singer 10 points, 2. Radnor Park A 8 points, 3. Victoria Park/Radnor B 4 points. The week six fixtures were due to be played on Monday, November 11.

The fixtures for week seven, due to be held on Monday, November 18 are as follows: Dalmuir v Clydebank, Singer v Radnor Park A and Radnor Park B v Victoria Park.

SCOTTISH INDOOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION The Gents National Indoor Leagues resumed on Saturday, November 9. The local derby between Dumbarton and Whiteinch in Division One Section E lived up to all expectations with a solitary one point victory to the home team. Final result: Dumbarton 76 Whiteinch 75. Whiteinch stay top of the league on shots difference although Dumbarton have a game in hand. On Saturday, November 16 Whiteinch are idle while Dumbarton travel to the south side to take on West of Scotland knowing a win or draw will take them to pole position in the league. In Division One Section D Allander’s miserable run without a win continued after a 52-128 defeat at Coatbridge. Allander do not have a game this coming Saturday.

The Ladies National Indoor Leagues continued on Saturday 9th November with the fifth round of games. In the Premier Division Section A the Whiteinch Ladies had a bad day at the office and lost heavily at home to Arbroath, the score being 57-103. The pressure is now on as their next two matches are away from home, against Midlothian on Saturday, November 16 and against Aberdeen on Saturday, November 23. The ladies will feel they need to win at least one of these games or they will get dragged down into the relegation zone. In Division One Section E Dumbarton lost 65-91 away at East Kilbride and Allander lost 56-86 at home to Glasgow. Dumbarton and Allander face off against each other on Saturday, November 16.

The next round of matches in the Seniors Indoor Leagues were held on Saturday, November 9. In West Section B Dumbarton kept the pressure on league winners Blantyre after an excellent 78-58 home win against Prestwick. Elsewhere the Whiteinch seniors won only their second game of the season with a comfortable 102-40 after bottom club Cowal. On Saturday, November 16 Whiteinch entertain league leaders Blantyre and Dumbarton are at home to Paisley.

In West Section C the Allander seniors lost their away match at Lanarkshire who leapfrogged them in the section. Next week they have a home game against Cumbernauld in West Section C.

The Senior National playdowns resumed on Sunday 10th November with the singles, pairs and triples being played through to semi-final stages. In the Senior Singles Jimmy Young of Allander received a bye in round three against the Dumbarton player who scratched. In the quarter final defending champion Jimmy was defeated 21-11 by William McGillvray of Coatbridge. In the Senior Pairs Billy Adams and Jake Condy were beaten in round three by John McCafferty and Michael McParland of Lanarkshire.

The Dumbarton pairing of Stewart Shields and Brian Neeson had a remarkable 31-3 win against Cumbernauld in round three. In the quarter final Dumbarton came agonisingly close to the semi-finals but went down 16-15 to the Lanarkshire pair. All these games were played at West of Scotland IBC.

On Sunday, November 17 the Senior National Fours will be played to semi-final stage. The Whiteinch rink of Robert Clarke, Peter Mason, Billy Adams and Jake Condy play against Cumbernauld at Stirling IBC.

The Greengauge Junior Challenge competition was played through to semi-final stage at the weekend. The West and South Playdowns for the Under 18 bowlers were held at Dumbarton IBC. Chris Mair of Dumbarton made it through to round two where he lost to eventual semi-finalist John Fleming of Inverclyde. The Allander and Whiteinch players lost out in the first round.

DISTRICT CLUB NEWS The Gents Bowling Section of Yarrow Recreation Club held their 69th Annual Presentation of Prizes on Friday, November 1. President Matt Naismith welcomed members and guests including CDBA Secretary John Anderson and DBA delegate Peter Mason. Winners of the main prizes were: Championship – Tommy Skinner, Presidents – Ricky McDougall, Vice Presidents – Owen Scambler, Select Fours – Tony Cochrane, Jim Carrick, Gregor Kennedy and Willie Drysdale, Select Triples – Alan Reader, Robert Hill and Jake Condy, Select Pairs – Eddie Askew and Alistair MacKay, Balloted Pairs – Michael Shields and Gerry Kane. The evening was concluded with a buffet and dancing to a live band.

Scotstounhill B.C. held their annual Presentation Night on Saturday, November 2. President George Stewart invited all ladies and gents members present and thanked all guests for attending.

Albion B.C. held their Presentation of Prizes on Friday, November 8 and a list of prizewinners will be provided in next week’s column. The last district club to hold their Presentation is Yoker who will be hosting their event on Saturday, November 16.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS National, Regional and District AGM’s are due to be held this month. First up is the Bowls Scotland AGM which this year will be held at Glasgow Indoor Bowling Club on Wednesday, November 20 starting at 1pm.

The Dumbartonshire Bowling Association hold their AGM the following day at Dumbarton Bowling Club. Two Directors are being sought to join the committee to fill vacancies in District One and District Three.

Nominees must be present at this meeting which starts at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 21. The CDBA AGM is due to be held on Tuesday, November 26 at Yarrow B.C.

WORLD BOWLS The Scottish International Open commenced at the Dewar’s Centre, Perth on Saturday, November 9. It proved to be a successful day for Scotland as reigning world champion Stewart Anderson defeated Stephen Zino (New Zealand) and then Wayne Hogg beat Aaron Teys (Australia). However the highlight of the day was from Dumbarton bowler Graeme Sloan who beat seeded Jonathan Ross in his first ever televised match. Both these players currently play out of Paisley IBC. The competition runs until Saturday, November 16 and is televised by the BBC.
